WHOLESALE CORDYLINE FRUTICOSA NURSERIES
Cordyline fruticosa are a more tropical to sub tropical plant with broader foliage and more colourful than other species. It is native to tropical Australia and is found in New Guinea through Melanesia.
It is not the species that are widely grown but the many cultivars that have been developed over recent years.
Cordyline fruticosa grow well in a humus rich moist but well drained soil in full sun to part shade, a little protection from the hot afternoon sun will keep it looking at its best although it does well in full sun as well. An excellent plant where a little height and nice foliage is needed in the border.
Basic Care
Sun
Although Cordylines will grow well in full sun, the foliage does hold up better and look more attractive with a little afternoon shade. The actual amount of sun depends on the type of cordyline you are growing.
Watering
Regarded as drought tolerant this is another plant we grow on a wet dry watering cycle. Water well and then allow the soil to dry before watering again. Not nay plants like consistently wet soil.
Less water in colder climates especially in winter. And never water logged soil.
Soil
Use a humus rich well drained potting mix in containers. In the ground, as long as drainage is good they are not fussy after they are established. Aim for a pH between 6.0 – 6.5.
The species can reach 4m over time and will fruit with red to orange berries.
