WHOLESALE CASHEW NUT TREE NURSERIES
Cashew Nut Trees are a tropical tree and the botanical name is Anacardium occidentale. A trees that set fruit in winter ready to be harvested in spring. For good nut production they are best with irrigation during the dry seasons and regular applications of fertilizer.
They are a productive tree and will produce nuts at an early stage reaching maximum production after 8 – 10 years.
The Cashew Nuts are difficult to process, and the fruit from which the seed or ‘nut’ is obtained has a caustic oil that is an irritant.
Although they are grown commercially in Australia they are sent for processing overseas. Probably not a fruit tree for a productive home garden.
Potential to further develop the industry in Australia is large, however not supported by any government initiatives. Australia has excellent potential to grow the trees, however we import all of our cashew nuts….
