WHOLESALE ALYOGYNE NURSERIES
What we commonly call the native Hibiscus are Alyogyne species and Alyogyne huegelii with its many cultivars is the variety offered mostly by wholesale growers.
Alyogyne huegelii alba or White Hibiscus, along with cultivars such as Alyogyne ‘Elle Maree’, and Alyogyne ‘Melissa Anne’ are all popular with landscapers.
Excellent landscaping plants for hot dry positions Alyogyne species and cultivars include ‘West Coast Gem’ a small evergreen shrub that will reach around 2m in height. Long flowering and very easy care.
A fairly open growing shrub all cultivars will grow well in a well drained soil, they are not tolerant of water logged conditions. Best grown in a position where the are protected from strong winds as they are prone to damage in very open areas.
Best suited to full sun, they will grow in semis shade however flowering will not be as prolific.
The popular species is A. huegellii and its cultivars which include the white flower ‘alba’ as well as the yellow ‘Elle Maree’. All are similar in growing requirements.
Generally supplied in 14cm pots to landscapes and retail garden centres although large specimens are available.
A, hakeifolia has very different foliage , fine needle like, flower colors include yellow pink and mauve.
