Peonies General information
Tree
Peonies are slow growing, long lived deciduous shrubs that eventually
grow to about a metre high. All the Tree Peonies will do best with a heavy application of dolomite lime. Given the right amount of lime, they will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions. They do best in a well drained situation that receives the morning sun and partly sheltered from hot afternoon sun. Once established (after 2-3 years), Tree Paeonies will tolerate our dry Summers. Not much will be seen above ground in the first couple of years, however the root system is establishing itself to support the tree that will develop in its latter years. There
is an old peony saying “the first year it sleeps, the second year
it creeps, then the third year it leaps".
