These
long lived perennials are happiest in areas with
a cold winter and a bright clear spring. Generally they take a couple
of years to settle down and bloom freely but the patience is worth it.
The flowers appear early summer. In warmer districts they may be
induced to flower by placing a block of ice once a week, on top of the
clump during Winter.

Both
Tree and herbaceous peonies require yearly, a liberal amount of ground
limestone. This promotes flowers and provides the root stock with
greater resistance to pests and diseases.
