New Zealand 'Flax' is Phormium, The flax used for linseed and linen is Linum. Both have their uses in the garden however it is usually the New Zealand Flax (Phormium) that we see in gardens. Phormium hybrids are incredibly popular with landscapers and gardeners, phormium is fast growing, reasonably drought tolerant, copes with a range of soil conditions and phormiums come in a range of colors from green through to red plus variegated varieties.
