Ballota plants and species
Ballota pseudodictamnus with its silver grey felt like foliage is the best known species that is readily available. A nice form is ‘pseudodictamnus nana’. Little care is required other than the removal of spent flower heads.
A sunny well drained position is required for this low growing drought tolerant shrub, from areas surrounding Greece. Look for Ballota pseudodictamnus ‘Nanus’ a dwarf or compact form.
Plant in a row as an edging for the dry garden border.
All species are very drought tolerant once established. With a mound forming habit it is the foliage that is the star attraction although it will flower with small pink flowers in summer.
Plants can be pruned back hard in spring to maintain a compact bushy habit.
Ballota Varieties
