Rainwater Tanks for the Garden

| A rainwater tank is a great way of collecting water for your garden, water feature or for use in the home. Given that for each 1ml of rain each sq metre of roof collects 1 litre of water and the average roof area of houses in Australia is 160 square metres, a brief 1m rainfall will give you 160 litres of water. So the larger the tank the better, we suggest at least 4-5000 litres. |

CHOOSING YOUR TANK
Concrete Tank, Poly Tank, Metal Tank?
Poly Tanks are often the cheapest.
Concrete Tanks can be made strong enough to install underground.
Fibreglass tanks are durable and resist corrosion.
Metal tanks now come with corrosive resistant coatings.
If you intend to drink tank water the tank needs to be a 'food grade' tank. After that its price, ease of installation, look, personal preference. We suggest you consult your local plumber for advice.
Tanks now come as slimeline, squat, modular, water walls and even as bladders, so no matter the spot you will find a tank that suits.
Do I need a pump for my water tank?
Well yes and no. If you tank is located at the highest point of your property and most of the garden is 'downhill' then maybe not, but water pressure will be low. However electric pumps that can run 2 garden hoses cost as little as a 2-3 hundred dollars, so maybe its worthwhile for most, again ask your plumber if in doubt.
