Hothouse, Greenhouse and Shadehouse
for the home gardener

Hothouses, Greenhouses and Shadehouses.

Shade Houses
Sha de houses are usually constructed over a frame of timber or aluminiun and are covered with shade cloth. Shade Houses are used for growing plants that naturally grow in a shaded situation such as: ferns, clivia, and cymbidium orchids. Shade houses are also very useful for refreshing indoor plants, helping new plants establish themeselves, providing protection for plants that have been transplanted or repotted.

Hot Houses
Hot houses are used to provide a warmer climate in order to grow plants that would naturally require hoter temperatures as well as to grow plants 'out of season'. Hot houses are also very useful to grow seedlings before transplanting into the garden. Hot houses are artificially heated and are temperature controlled. Hot houses used to be made of glass, however today it is common practice to use clear polycarbonate panels, as these are cheaper and tougher.

Green Houses
Essentially a greenhouse is a hothouse without the heating.
